Grapevine, TX, April 3, 2011 - Ra Medical Systems, Inc.
Ra Medical System, Inc., a global leader in excimer laser technology for medical applications including dermatology, today announced the presentation of a new study on its flagship product, the PHAROS Excimer Laser, at the ASLMS. The study was presented at the 31st Annual Scientific Conference of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS). "LASER 2011" was held March 30 - April 3, 2011, at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas.
The study was conducted and presented by Dr. David Goldberg, clinical professor and director of Laser Research in the department of Dermatology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and the Medical Director of Skin Laser & Surgery Specialists of New York and New Jersey, which has pioneered numerous skin laser and dermatology technologies, including for psoriasis, vitiligo, and hypo-pigmentation.
Dr. Goldberg’s study, 308-nm Excimer Laser Treatment of Palmoplantar Psoriasis was published in the Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy, 2011; 13:47-19. In it, Dr Goldberg reports success with the PHAROS Excimer Laser, a 308-nm xenon chloride super narrowband UVB laser, for the treatment of palmoplantar psoriasis.
Palmoplantar psoriasis is regarded as one of the most difficult-to-treat and treatment resistant forms of psoriasis. It is commonly associated with painful fissuring and pustules and many patients report significant psychosocial distress and difficulty performing activities of daily living.
In the podium presentation of his study, Dr Goldberg stated that all study patients treated with the PHAROS Excimer laser showed between 50% and 100% improvement after 7 to 14 treatments. 100% of the patients enjoyed 3-months or greater remission after the PHAROS treatments and 40% remained in remission after 6 months.
Dr Goldberg concluded, “Our data do support the use of the excimer laser to treat patients with hand and foot psoriasis. The excimer laser should be strongly considered for patients with palmoplantar psoriasis unresponsive to other treatment options.”
Melissa Burstein, Vice President, commented, “We are honored to have such a widely respected laser and psoriasis expert as Dr. Goldberg present his outstanding clinical success with the PHAROS at the ASLMS. This study gives new hope to patients who suffer from this painful and difficult-to-treat form of psoriasis and paves the way for dermatologists in the US and international communities to offer the PHAROS to these patients.”
